Musicianship / Theory students develop their aural musicianship skills, learn to read and write music, develop their creative imagination through composing music and learn to appreciate the beauty of music through listening and responding to all genres of music. All students are prepared for Royal Irish Academy of Music written theory exams. Musicianship theory is compulsory to all students receiving instrumental tuition at CSM, with the exception of guitar students, teenage beginners and adults. Musicianship theory classes begin at seven years of age and are graded as follows:
